Tips Introduction
Starting
Out
Your
race is probably the second biggest decision when you create your character. It
will influence which classes and religions you can choose, and where your
character can travel to and hunt unhindered.
If
you are new to the game it is recommended that you choose a race with good
faction (few people will attack you on sight).
Humans
are perhaps the best choice because they can play almost any class and they have
very good starting cities. They also have few enemies and are welcome in many
cities.
Character
Creation
At
a later time you may wish to choose your race based on how good it will be with
the class you want to play. It is usually best to first choose the class, then
the race. Every class must be played in a similar way so the race isn't as
important, its how you want to play.
Certain
classes make better combinations than others, for example, an Ogre Warrior makes
a formidable fighter and could be said to be 'the best' choice to play a
warrior.
The
stats of a race are definitely important, but as above, choose your class first,
then your race. You can choose your race based on many things, some of which are
listed below:
(in
no particular order of importance)
1.
Looks
2.
Faction
3.
Stats
4.
Race Reputation
5.
Role-play
6.
Experience
7.
Race Abilities
1.
Looks - The looks of a race can be important, it would be hard to spend hours
playing a character you can't bear to look at, or you keep seeing others
thinking, I want to be like that!
2.
Faction - The faction of a race can seriously effect how you can play it. Evil
races cannot visit most of the good races home cities, and are prevented from
re-supplying in many places. (This can make hunting in dungeons very difficult
as you are forced to return to the nearest evil friendly merchant to buy
food/water/bandages, it also means you cannot train in your classes skills
without returning home.)
3.
Stats - The stats of a race can seriously effect your game play,
a cleric with 60 wisdom, or a warrior with 60 strength will
not make a very effective class and will be extremely difficult to play!
4/5.
Race Reputation/Role-play - For some playing as a noble Vah Shir, a devious Dark
Elf or a stupid Ogre is enough to choose that class/race combination.
6.
Experience - Some races gain experience very slowly and this can put someone off
playing that race. Trolls and Iksar are examples of race which gain very slowly.
7.
Race Abilities - Races all have different abilities and for some these make the
race worth choosing. For example Halflings gain experience very quickly and have
sneak and hide, Iksar have regeneration and master swimming and Ogres have slam
and very high strength and stamina.
