Starting Out as a Barbarian (EQ Races)
Barbarians start out in the city of Halas.
When you first enter Halas, you will find yourself near your
Guild Master. For the purpose of this guide I will be going to level 10, but if you want to start your quests hand your note to your
Guild Master (press the inventory button on the Window Selector at the top of your screen, left click the note, 'drag it' onto the
Guild Master, and click give) and note down what he says to follow up on at a
later time.
When your ready to start hunting, head south (use the (?) icon in the window selector, click
Hotkeys, then Compass.) and eventually if you run along the south wall you will come to a dock. If you wait on the wooden platform a small barge/platform will arrive, step on it, and it will take you across the river.
You can also swim across if you don't want to wait heading in a straight line
from the dock. (Walk into the water use the movement keys to change direction
and move forward, use page up and page down to adjust your heads 'tilt', you
will swim in the direction you face.)
When you reach the other side, step off and continue running down the tunnel, you will zone into Everfrost Peaks.
In front of you will be some small tents, for now don't worry about the people near these, but you can sell items to them later. Continue on down the 'tunnel'.
You will see some barbarians in leather with a polar bar cap at the end of the ramp, these are the guards to run to if you get in trouble. No matter where you head in Everfrost, remember that your home town will be to the North West. Eventually you will come to an opening in the 'tunnel', you may see some roaming polar bears. If you head to your left you will find a book on a stall, if you have the Planes of Power expansion this will take you to Planes of Knowledge, for now, don't worry about this. But head along and see if you can find it.
Under actions in the bottom right corner of your screen, you will find two crossed swords, press this button. Where it says Melee Attack, if you click on something, like a polar bear and click Melee Attack, you will begin attempting to hit it. You will need to be close to the animal/monster in order to do this.
When you right click on an animal/monster, some text will appear in the Main Chat window. If this text is dark blue, it means the animal/monster is slightly weaker than you (lower level). If it is white it means the animal/monster is the same level as you and will probably kill you in a one to one fight. (equal level). If it is yellow or red then the monster is more powerful than you (higher level). Red is more powerful than yellow. Try to avoid yellow and red monsters for now.
You should still be at the book. Head out in front of the book and you will see a tree, if you stand near this tree you will some mobs (animals/monsters) walking around, try to find some white or dark blue ones and kill them. When the mob dies, if you right click its corpse you will see any items it was carrying and anything else you can recover from its corpse. If you right click these items (loot them) they will appear in your inventory.
When you return North West to your home town, if you right click an NPC barbarian such as the female one under the tent (who is a merchant) it
will open a trade window. When you left click (select) an item she will tell you how much she will pay for it, click Sell on an item you don't want to keep and you will
receive the coin for it. Earn as much money as you can at earlier levels, to help support you to buy spells (if you are a magic user) or weapons (if you are a melee).
If you right click one of the numbered buttons under your battle tab (the crossed swords) you may get a list of other actions, such as Kick or Slam, if you do select the action (left click it) and the button will become active. Whenever you click it, it will perform that action.
If you die, don't worry all your items will remain on you (until level 10) and you will lose no experience (until level 11). You will return to the bottom of the ramp, near the guards.
When you reach around level 5 you may want to move on to harder mobs. From the ramp with the two guards, if you head south west until you hit the wall boundaries (corner) and then head along east you will come to BlackBarrow. The 2 gnolls at the entrance are level 4 or 5, its usually best to stay around this entrance to level 6 or so before going further as there are some more gnolls guarding the passages into BlackBarrow which are quite strong.
One thing of note if you venture inside is you will need a light source or a
vision enhancement spell as the entrance is very dark.
Once you do zone inside you will see a large pool, the gnolls around this area aren't too strong and can take you to around level 7 or 8, when you move further into the barrow it can take you up to level 10 and beyond, and by then, you should be well past newbie land and no longer needing a guide =).
