Starting Out as a Dark Elf (EQ Races)

Neriak is a large city split into sections (zones), Neriak Foreign Quarter, Commons and Third Gate. At the furthest western point of Neriak is the entrance to Nektulous Forest.

When your ready head west and locate the zone entrance to Nektulous Forest. (In Neriak Foreign Quarter you will need to walk through a gatehouse structure with two towers to reach the path up to the entrance)

On zoning in you will see a short passageway and probably a couple of guards standing at the entrance (Dragoons) To the south west and a little way out you should see a log laid flat. Between this and the entrance is a good place to stay to level 4 or so, when you reach level 2. Unfortunately the level 1 monsters are quite sparse and you will need to venture somewhat further out to find them.

Moss Snakes, Black Wolves, and decaying skeletons should be reasonable targets, if you want to return to Neriak or stay close to the guards, it can be handy to remember the entrance is in the North East corner of the zone. When you reach level 2 most of the monsters that were too difficult at level 1 near the log will be much better (and easier) targets. Unlike many other  beetles, you should find that Pyre Beetles don't help each other.

When you reach level 4 you will want to fight something a little tougher, return to the entrance to Neriak then head West until you find a road. Head down this road until you see a turning to the left, around this spot is a good place to find monsters up to level 5 or 6.

When your ready follow the road down and you will come to another turning, and if you continue walking a bridge, skeletons and tree snakes roam around here and can take you up to level 7. Its best to stay clear of the Black Mambas for now as they are quite high level and difficult to kill.

You will soon want to move on to a higher level zone, there are several nearby choices for a Dark Elf but probably the easiest is East Commonlands. To get there find the road that you followed from Neriak, if you keep following it south, over the bridge, you will eventually come to a zone entrance (passageway). If you walk through there you should soon zone into East Commonlands

Here at level 7 or 8 you can hunt Shadow Wolves, black bears, plains cats, scarabs and large fire beetles. To reach level 12 you will want to fight the larger spiders, plains lions, giant leaf scarabs and giant fire beetles. Generally the further east you go towards Freeport, the lower level monsters you will encounter. For level 8 you want to be somewhere in the middle, between West Commonlands and Freeport, though you will need to wander around the zone a fair amount to find suitable targets.

At level 12 or so you will probably want to go to North Ro or Oasis, the passage to North Ro is along the Southern zone wall of East Commonlands, towards the Freeport end. Happy Hunting!
